GIS, or Geographic
Information Systems,
is an enterprise that has come of age in the information society.
The character of GIS that sets us apart from other information
societies is the need to identify 'where.'
Based on that focus the GIS community
has its own history, theory, technology and skills. The practitioners
of GIS have common interests and therefore benefit from having
our own society within the State to share ideas and company.
To this end ILGISA was formed to bring together the GIS community
in the State of Illinois. ILGISA holds at least two conferences
each year and publishes Illinois GIS Notes twice per year.
Membership in ILGISA is based on the
calendar year and is open to anyone interested in GIS. Each
member receives a copy of Illinois GIS Notes and all other
mailings. Special member rates are available for all conferences
and seminars. A membership directory is compiled and distributed
to all members. Regular membership costs $30 per year.
Student Membership is available to at
least half-time students enrolled in a post-secondary educational
institution. A letter from the Department Chair verifying
full-time student status is required along with an application
for Student Membership, which costs $10 per year.
Most people fill out the application
for membership that accompanies the announcement of a conference.

The association contracts with the Regional Development Institute at Northern Illinois University to
